This simple way erases the differences between web and desktop applications :)

Also in Safari 4 client-side SQL from the HTML5 draft is implemented - for storing data on the client by such web applications.

There is a widespread opinion that in the future the OS will be one big browser. I think this is not so - just the web services themselves will be deeper and more interesting to integrate with the OS, bypassing the browser.
