EMC relies on ReactOS for storing big data in the IoT sphere

Welcome Habr!

We are glad to continue the week of good news from the world of Opensource! The celebration on the street of followers of open source software continues.

You may have noticed that recently, ReactOS has been working hard to support various file systems. Currently Ext2 \ 3 \ 4 is supported, NTFS is read (a patch is being prepared for “write” ), BTRFS , ReiserFS and FFS are being prepared for inclusion. Actively updated universal driver ATA-devices - UniATA . All this revival happened for a reason.

The fact is that we have been negotiating with EMC for a possible cooperation for a long time and have made every effort to prove the existence of hidden growth potential in our project. Finally, a fundamental agreement was reached that EMC would take the project of ReactOS under patronage. No, we are not talking about any loss of independence, but only focused on stimulating development, free software should remain free. It’s just that the corporation followed the example of leaders in other sectors of the software market with a new force that believed in the power of open source software and decided to keep up with the latest trends.

The main focus of EMC is the development and production of data storage systems and software for managing information infrastructures. The corporation believes that the record low resource requirements of a full-fledged operating system, such as ReactOS, with a graphical interface and support for multiple CPU architectures are a possible key to dominate the data storage market in the IoT sector.

The Internet of Things generates a huge and steady stream of information. It comes from various devices and corporate data banks. In response, companies are forced to change their data storage approaches. This applies primarily to infrastructure and data centers (data centers, data centers). We have to buy new equipment, make changes to communications and systems that are responsible for the smooth operation of the entire complex. At the same time, techniques related to data storage change.

When choosing a set of technologies for processing big data, one always has to take into account the huge flow of information that the Internet of Things generates. Organizations are forced to use data distribution technologies derived from the IoT realm. They also have to take care of which devices and capacities will be involved in this process. In such conditions it is very important to rationally approach the saving of system resources! After all, every saved “megabyte” in one virtual host can result in a terabyte of competitive advantage as a whole!

The details of the EMC agreement with ReactOS will be communicated later, as they become known. Stay in touch!
