Digg will hide its activists

One of the most popular social sites in the world - Digg.com - is trying to cope with attempts to manipulate the voting results for the news. For this, the administration of the resource decided to delete the list of the most active users - Top Diggers.

As the project manager Kevin Rose explains , this is done in order to protect the “top diggers” from being attacked by those who accuse them of manipulating the site. The Top Diggers list appeared at the time of the birth of the site, when it was necessary to interest people to use it, involving them to establish connections with other users. Now, having gained 900,000 active users, the resource does not need such lists, although the stimulation of social connections will continue.

More than once before Digg, claims of corruption and prejudice have been expressed: there is an opinion that groups have appeared on the site that, for the sake of anyone, “raise” / “omit” certain news.

In addition, hiding the list of "top diggers" to some extent will help reduce the likelihood of bribing any of them. This has already happened , and information about attempts at bribing float constantly (yesterday, for example, a letter from the site owner BringPopcorn.com was published to Top10 diggers asking them to bring his site to the first page). In the absence of this list, finding the “right people” for potential bribe takers will become more difficult.
