Google launches media server for file sharing

An interesting gadget was released in the collection of Google. Media Server allows access to user files from various devices. This is a kind of Microsoft platform called Live Mesh, which we reported earlier . The only difference is that Microsoft’s global plans are still plans (the system has been developed for two years, and it’s not known how many will be tested in private), while Google solved the problem simply and elegantly, using a small gadget.

You can download the Media Server gadget from any device that supports UPnP : a personal computer, game console, mobile phone, and so on. From everywhere you get access to your personal files that are indexed on a PC by Google Desktop or are located somewhere on Google’s online services (Picasa, YouTube). Even without Google Desktop from a personal computer, you can open access to any folder that is immediately shared via the Media Server.

You configure access rights to the content: only for certain devices (after their authorization) or for everyone.
