The widest prime number written in roman numerals

One of my favorite entertainment tweets is @wacnt. There appear questions that Wolfram | Alpha, the mathematical search engine, cannot answer. To some, by the way, I was able to give an answer to the virtual assistant of Facebook M.

Here's a recent trick that made me smile:

Facebook M simply gave the largest number of primes close to 4,000 — that's 3989. But this is not necessarily the case, because we are talking about the Roman record.

As part of the daily procrastination, I urgently needed to know the answer to this particular question.

To begin with, I made a list of primes smaller than 4000. Because of laziness, I simply googled them and inserted them into the script.

Then I had to convert them to Roman. NSNumberFormatter did not cope with this task. I had to look for the desired function and adapt it as an extension of UInt.

It remains to go through all the numbers and find the widest of them, measuring the lines written in Times New Roman.

And it turned out that the widest prime number to 4000, written in Roman numerals in Times New Roman font, is 3889, or MMMDCCCLXXXIX.
