Hi, Habr! Today I want to make a small post-hypothesis and discuss its correctness with the developer community. By occupation, we communicate a lot with custom-made developers (mobile, web, etc.). We are discussing problems, prospects, and all that.
So, over the past two years, I increasingly hear the following:
- Mobile production: “ Terekhov, the Russian market is not at all interesting to us now, we are working (/ trying / wanting) with western customers in dollar rates ”.
')
- Web productions: “ Andrei, there have been fewer large orders on the Russian market, the competition has intensified. Where can we get new customers? And we also really want to work on the western market at dollar rates, how would we organize it? ".
Yesterday we
released another rating of mobile developers , and in the case of the mobile market we found out - in the top ten only 4 companies with head offices in Moscow. The rest is Peter and the regions. Well, then the list is the same alignment. It would seem, what is the connection with the previous thesis?
Hence, a couple of thoughts, thought and question to you:
Thought the first. West and Russian regions
Pretty obvious, but still.
* I will not say that the attractiveness for a foreign client of working with a Russian contractor has grown 2-3 times lately - everyone understands.
If you are targeting the western market, the customer is absolutely violet, you are sitting in the Federation Tower in Moscow or in a village in the Far East - anyway, with a probability of 99%, he works with you remotely and does not intend to visit Russia. And in this case, the production in the region allows to reduce costs - and get an advantage over Moscow productions. Therefore, apparently, the number of even large mobile productions from the regions is growing.
Thought the second. Web and Mobile
In the market of customized web development / web design, we are not so clearly seeing this trend. Most likely, this is due to the following factors:
- The market for web productions is much more mature and established. Unlike small mobile teams, it is more difficult for them to change the format of work from a Russian customer to a western one. And large Russian clients want to communicate in person in Moscow.
- Unlike mobile, a huge technological piece of web development (especially for the development of simple websites and stores) is tied to our commercial CMS (Bitrix, UMI, Netkat). Obviously, they didn’t stand up to the western customer in 99% of cases, and on other platforms thousands of Russian web studios simply don’t know how.
- A large number of web productions have grown over the years with marketing services - SEO, context, SMM, etc. And selling them to the West is two orders of magnitude more difficult for obvious reasons. Thus, the chain “sold the site, supplemented marketing and analytics” is lost.
But, nevertheless, even on the web, we see this trend in communication with agencies. Albeit less explicitly than with mobile developers.
And now, actually, the question is -
am I right, and how are things with you - both in web development and in mobile?
