Dear colleagues, I have great news for you!

The open NoSQL-database Tarantool , which is developed by Mail.ru, was certified for Azure cloud platform and published in the Azure Marketplace for ease and speed of deployment.

Tarantool is a high-performance Lua-based application server integrated with NoSQL DBMS. The database is developed as an open project under the BSD license by Mail.ru and the developer community.

The largest case for using Tarantool is Mail.ru itself, which, with the help of this database, provides 30 million users and 500 million emails per day. Other Tarantool users are Badoo, Avito, Qiwi, Wallarm, and so on.

Azure Marketplace

We have already talked about the purpose of the Azure Marketplace and the details of using the store for developers and IT professionals to deploy complex third-party solutions, and for independent software developers (ISV) who want to enter new markets for the distribution of their solutions.

Many ISVs have already certified their solutions for Azure and placed them in the Azure Marketplace, among them Red Hat, Oracle, CoreOS, MariaDB, Elasticsearch and hundreds of others. You can read more about some in this article , and the full list of solutions is always available on the official Azure Marketplace website .

Tarantool & Azure Marketplace

We are pleased to announce that the Tarantool solution is now certified and available to Azure users from the Azure Marketplace. You can find a description of the solution on a separate page in the store .

We are very pleased to present the Tarantool database to the developer community on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Azure Marketplace will simplify Tarantool deployment in a cloud environment and reduce the entry threshold for developers who need a reliable, open source solution for storing and processing data.

Tarantool is a database and cache in one bottle. It combines the advantages of traditional databases — secure storage, transactions, secondary indexes, server query language — and at the same time it works with lightning-fast cache speeds, allowing you to achieve query execution time in a fraction of a millisecond and throughput of millions of transactions per second.

- Denis Anikin , Technical Director of Mail.ru and Mail.ru Cloud Services

The Tarantool solution hosted in the Azure Marketplace is offered free of charge, the Azure user only pays for the computing power on which he will deploy the database. Let me remind you that in-minute pricing works in Azure.

Creating Tarantool in Azure

Demonstrate how easy it is now to deploy the Tarantool database in Azure. On the solution page in the Azure Marketplace, click on the “Create a virtual machine” button. Or select Tarantool from the list of solutions in the portal of your Azure account.

You can review the description of the solution and click the Create button to deploy it.

The Deployment Wizard launches, which prompts you for introductory parameters, such as the VM name, username and password for SSH access, a subscription, and a resource group to deploy the solution to, Azure data center.

In the second step, you will be prompted to select the size of the VM on which the Tarantool database will be deployed. You can choose one of the suggested VMs or set your own size:

In the third step, you can configure additional options and fine-tune the deployment. You can leave everything at default and go to step four.

The fourth step introduces you to the specified parameters, which you just need to confirm. Just click “OK” to go to the final part.

The final step is to familiarize yourself with the terms of purchasing and deploying the solution and launch the deployment by clicking on the Purchase button.

After that, the process of deploying the Tarantool database solution in your subscription with the specified parameters will be launched.

You just need to wait a few minutes until the VM with the configured Tarantool is deployed and you get access to the running virtual machine with the Tarantool database ready for work.

After that you can connect via SSH to your machine with Tarantool:

Conclusion

We looked at deploying a new Tarantool database solution in the Microsoft Azure cloud using the Azure Marketplace store. Thanks to certification and in-store publishing, developers and IT professionals can now deploy Tarantool to Azure much easier and faster using official creator VM images.
