IBM introduced the new z13s hybrid cloud mainframe.

IBM has announced a new mainframe, which will be useful primarily to companies of medium and small size. This mainframe provides an additional level of data security through encryption, without sacrificing speed or performance. The system is called IBM z13s. When using it, any company can support the operation of hybrid cloud assets with reliable protection of corporate information.

The development of IBM z13s provided two goals - high performance and data security. Regarding the latter, for any company, data protection now is of paramount importance. The fact is that the number of malicious attacks on networks of enterprises is constantly increasing, the attacks themselves become more sophisticated. At the same time, the number of operations in the network of companies today is also constantly increasing due to the use of cloud technologies and mobile devices. According to IBM , attackers are now trying to manipulate data, not steal it, which compromises the accuracy and reliability of enterprise information.

• Hardware encryption: encryption tools in the z13s are integrated into the hardware. Due to this, the process of encryption and decoding is twice as fast as the previous generation of mainframes. This provides additional protection for corporate data without sacrificing speed or performance;
• The z13s combines mainframe technology with IBM Security software solutions. This allowed us to create a reliable base for a hybrid cloud infrastructure. In addition, the corporation offered a new Cyber ​​Security Analytics service for z Systems customers, which allows for the early detection of suspicious activity by analyzing users' behavioral data over the long term;
• Extensive partner ecosystem through IBM's work with major cybersecurity industry representatives. Here we can distinguish BlackRidge Technology, Forcepoint (joint venture Raytheon and Vista Equity Partners) and RSM Partners.

Since the encryption in the new system is at the forefront, there are quite a lot of user data protection tools. In particular, the mainframe includes a number of updated and hardware-accelerated co-processor cryptographic cards with protection against unauthorized access. The processors are faster, and the memory size is larger than the previous models. As a result, the encryption speed is doubled when compared with average performance servers. The cost of the transaction will be lower.



For additional data protection, the IBM Multi-factor Authentication for z / OS (MFA) application is used, which is already available on z / OS. Here the developers added an additional level of information security. In particular, when entering the system, users will need to enter additional identification data - this could be a PIN or a randomly generated set of characters. MFA is now part of the operating system, and is not supplied as an optional software product.

It is worth mentioning the IBM Security Identity Governance and Intelligence service , which helps prevent corporate data leaks, which uses a system of management and access control based on a specific procedure. Monitoring, which is carried out by the service, keeps track of what data and where it was sent, with the possibility of early detection of sources of threats in the event of an attack.
