How to replace iPhoto?

This post is probably an obvious candidate for the minuses, but still, I would like to learn from experienced Mac'evodov how you organized your photos. The first thing that came to my attention was iPhoto. But I don’t like his cumbersomeness, stagnation (applied filters and improvements he imposes every time I open a photo) and the photo storage system on the hard disk. What do you use?
