When I read texts many years ago, like Gates's book “The Road to the Future”, I didn’t believe a word. Well, nonsense was utter. And for this, he did not need an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi or even dial-up. He was in himself.
But time passed and everything changed, very much changed. I don’t have a thermometer at home, I don’t buy newspapers, I don’t buy envelopes and I don’t carry huge bags of food from the store. I am subscribed to the weather RSS, I read websites that I trust, write emails and order the Internet products in ********.
For me it became a chore. The computer became a household appliance, and that old scurf of a miracle was erased from it. Just a communication device for communicating, collecting and classifying information. Everything. There is no more zest in it. No and there was no particular interest in the vacuum cleaner. And now in the computer.
Remember the movie "Hackers"? He could have been biased, naive and stupid, but he ideally conveyed that atmosphere of endless technology drive. It was great! Matrix 16,000 colors? Wow Megabytes of code? Yes! People were fans, crazy. But that time is gone. Social networks? Semantic web? Voice applications? Streaming video? Blogs? Means. Nothing more. Do you know what a regular Linux developer looks like now? 35 years old, home, family, 2 children. Works in a large company providing Linux solutions. He's not a fan, it's just his job. I remember people with straps of RAM on backpacks. They lived it.
