Microsoft expands its Mac department

Microsoft has implemented the largest set of new developers in the Mac-department for the entire 11-year history of this unit. It was created in 1997 as part of a deal in which Apple agreed to install Internet Explorer on all models of its computers to help Microsoft in its efforts to nip the development of a cross-platform browser based on Netscape.

Very quickly after the deal, Microsoft became the second largest developer of Mac software in the world after Apple itself. Now the Mac BU department employs 180 people, and it brings Microsoft about $ 350 million a year.

Record expansion of the state due to the fact that Microsoft is preparing to release a number of new programs on another platform. True, the leaders of the Mac-department did not specify which programs are meant. It is known that it will not be MS Office in the near future, because Microsoft plans to release new versions of Office for Mac every 2-3 years, and the latest Office 2008 was released recently. In addition to the office suite, Microsoft also releases the IM-messenger and the Remote Desktop Client for the “macintosh”.
