What does the VxRail hyper-convergent system look like? Online demo, functionality, availability to order

On February 16, EMC, VMware, and VCE jointly announced new ultra-compact computing systems that minimally combine serious computing power, storage resources, a hypervisor, and control software. This new direction of infrastructure solutions "all in one" is designed to simplify the deployment of new virtual infrastructures where you need the maximum speed of implementation, ease of management and powerful functionality, combined with a relatively low budget.

If you suddenly missed the announcement, I suggest you see what these systems are and why they are needed at all. Detailed or short - to your taste.

In short, VxRail is “in one bottle” highly reliable VMware scalable server cluster, plus storage, plus control software, plus data protection, plus integration with the cloud, plus 200+ automated typical tasks.

In this article, we offer you access to a detailed demonstration of the management interface, we tell you what licenses are part of the solution and what choice of hardware is in the configuration process.

In order to immediately clarify, I’ll say that VxRail is based on VMware EVO Rail, and EMC is not the first to enter this market, and this is already the second run, if the first is VSPEX Blue. But the approach is very interesting, since VxRail contains a unique additional functional "stuffing" and a large selection of possibilities.

In addition, unlike its predecessors, VSPEX Blue, VxRail systems are a fully integrated solution, supplied and supported by one supplier - EMC. Preparations for the withdrawal of VxRail to the market are quite good - from the first day of the announcement, an online demonstration of VxRail appeared in the public domain. Interestingly, you can not only watch it on the Internet, but also download it for offline viewing. The archive weighs only 55 MB - download and get to know your health!

Those who like briefly about the main thing - can watch the video with a brief overview of the management interface:

Hyper-convergent VxRail has already appeared in the EMC configurator, and you can get prices for it and even place orders. All systems supplied are supported by EMC’s full and unconditional support. It is possible in the version 9 * 5 and 24 * 7.

All hybrid models are available for order with the only reservation - VxRail 60 will be shipped in the second quarter.

VxRail flash models will be available in the second quarter.

VxRail offers customers to use the VMware vSphere Loyalty program which allows you to transfer VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses to VxRail. To do this, you need to have the number of licenses for the corresponding number of cores in VxRail. For example, for a 4-node VxRail 60 - 4 vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses. VxRail 120, VxRail 160 and VxRail 200 with 4 nodes require 8 vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses (2 for each node).

VxRail includes the following set of licenses: vSphere, Virtual SAN, vRealize Log Insight, and vCenter Server.

As for the versions, in the 1st quarter it will be vSphere 6.0 / VSAN 6.1. and in the 2nd quarter it will be possible to make an “no charge” upgrade to Virtual SAN 6.2.

From EMC functionality, VxRail includes RecoverPoint for VMs (15 VMs per device) and EMC CloudArray (10 TB cloud storage license per device. Optionally, you can purchase the necessary licenses from EMC in the usual way.

If you want to talk with experts online - we will have a webinar on the EMC Russia channel on Brighttalk on these systems in early March - come, we will be very happy!
