There are several reasons for this. And one of them (and most important) is the inability to work with clients.
Once, about 3 years ago, I worked in one firm, the main essence of which was customer service. The whole business was built precisely on the correct, friendly and courteous work with clients. And it really worked!
Over time, there were a lot of customers, and the company's profit increased almost every month. No new services, features, extensions, etc. Only work with clients from "A to Z".
Honestly, I am glad that I managed to work in this institution then - it taught me a lot - clients were very different - from boors to tactful foreigners and with everyone it was necessary to find a common language, to keep the brand. Perhaps that is why it is now much easier for me to work with clients in freelancing - I have already been through something similar for a long time.

I think that you have already guessed which way I'm going. Freelance is also a service area, the only difference is that there is no personal (visual) contact. However, the rules are the same - correctness, friendliness and courtesy when working with clients. Whatever the mood, no matter what the fly bites - the service and reputation must first be conscious and not allowed to cross the line.
I can say with confidence that the majority of freelancers do not have the skill of working with clients as a class. You can be a master with “golden hands”, but without the ability to work with clients - these “golden hands” cost exactly 0. And it is these freelancers who will never succeed - their business will not grow, will not bring new clients as recommended by old etc. They are doomed to an eternal search for orders, instead of orders finding them themselves ...
So, the freelancers that are reading my this message now - stop and rethink how you work with clients. This is the first thing that you have to “pump over” in yourself in order not to have problems in the future. No technical knowledge of the subject of work will not replace your ability to work with clients.
Grind your work in this area all the time - this is a direct path to success.
Successes!
