In memory of Geir Ivarsoy.

Yesterday accidentally drew attention to About Opera browser. There, at the very bottom of the page, is an inscription that interested me.
In memory of Geir Ivarsøy.

Who is this Ivarsoy, Geir ? Turning for help first to Wikipedia, and then to Google, I realized that I was not the first questioner. But let me quote what is written on the wiki - believe me, this person deserves a mention on Habré (I did not find him mentioned here).

Geir Ivarsoy (Norr. Geir Ivarsøy; June 27, 1957 - March 9, 2006) - a Norwegian programmer, was a leading developer in Opera Software ASA, known for its Opera browser. He and Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner (Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner) worked together in the research division of the telephone company Telenor, where they developed software called MultiTorg Opera. Telenor closed the project, but in 1995 Geir and Jon bought out the rights to their offspring, formed a company and continued to work on the browser.

Now this project is known as Opera, this browser has become very popular, despite the competition. The staff of Opera Software ASA has been replenished with more than 400 employees since moving to Oslo.

At a meeting of board members in January 2004, Geir Ivarsoy announced his resignation from the members of the board of Opera Software ASA, although after that he actively participated in the development of the company. In July 2005, he was elected a member of the nomination committee of the company.

Geir died on March 9, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.
