Install Google Android on your smartphone HTC Touch Cruise.

My good friend and just a great person assembled the firmware for the HTC Polaris communicator (HTC Touch Cruise) based on the Google Android operating system. I'll warn you right away that he ported the DEMO version, which by definition cannot be full-fledged and only shows the main functionality of the platform.

Thanks to his work, now any owner of the HTC Touch Cruise communicator (also known as HTC Polaris) will be able to test the notorious interface from Google personally.

Below is the text of the author of the firmware and his wishes.

So your attention is provided while the only and the first of its kind firmware.

RUU Polaris Android DEMO v.1.0

I warn you immediately do not expect anything special from this firmware. This is rather a demo version of trying to port a new axis from GOOGLE to our device.
Those who do not know what Linux is, it is better to leave this section right away and no longer look in here.

And now more detailed:
1. Windows on this firmware does not work (or rather it works, but it is truncated to the maximum).
2. After the firmware, the device will work as a PDA and not as a communicator (you cannot call from this firmware).
3. I'm not a fan of Linux (rather, I'm a fan of Vinovs Mobile), but I myself became interested in the capabilities of our device.
4. Do not be intimidated by this firmware - you definitely will not spoil your communicator or break it. This is a simple firmware with the ability to roll back to any version of Windows.
5. Firmware released for lovers of everything new, i.e. in order to evaluate the available part of the capabilities of the new platform from the above company.
6. The Android platform is taking its first steps, so do not make demands on it like it is on Windows Mobile.
8. And to finish, I will say - Android is forever and it should live and develop .

Personal opinion of the author:
I really liked this platform for its flexibility and I can assume that when it reaches a higher level, then it can be safely called the best system for smart gadgets !

But again, I repeat that the laid out version is just a demo version of the platform, and it is intended only for true fans of everything new.

And now I will talk about the installation:
1. Launch the firmware as it should be and wait for its installation.
2. After the firmware is installed, do not press any keys and do not pay attention to the menu that pops up on the screen, the rain of the end of customization and reboot of the device.
3. After launch you will see the following window:

4. As you understand, you need to press the RUN button, then wait until the Linux boot message appears.
5. After the progress bar reaches the end - wait again. This process may take some time.
6. If after about 5-7 minutes a black screen does not appear on the screen of the communicator, it means it hangs a bit, so make a soft reset (Soft Reset).

ATTENTION! From the first and even from the third time, sometimes the device may not start the Android (the dampness of the platform affects). So try to reboot the device in this case several times. I for example started with only 4 times.

7. Finally, you have started Android - enjoy and learn the platform.

A WARNING! After the launch of Android, Windows is unloaded and as a result, the ActiveSync device does not synchronize and even more does NOT CHARGE the port through the USB. Look do not put the battery (although it is not terrible, then charge it through charging in the off state).

That's all. This is the first attempt to port Android to the TouchCruise communicator.

upd: For clarity of what you get, we'll give some screenshots:

And lastly, I repeat again, this firmware is intended only for the HTC Touch Cruise , on other communicators it simply will not start.

In conclusion, I’ll say that you shouldn’t be afraid, you don’t “kill” this firmware and break your communicator - you can always return to your native firmware.

GOOD LUCK!

As the Android platform develops and improves, I will port and improve it for the HTC Touch Cruise and maybe for other models.

The firmware itself can be taken from Rapida and from the developer forum 3PPC.net

Details on the development of the firmware can be traced on the forum.

upd: added some screenshots
