Europe says goodbye to Gmail

Google is no longer entitled to use the Gmail trademark in Europe. This resolution was issued by the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, which deals with trademark registration.

The 32-year-old German businessman Daniel Giersch, who proved in court that his own G-mail trademark and Google's Gmail have a very similarity, was recognized as the present owner of Gmail in Europe. Girsh’s website, Gmail.de , also provides advanced email services.

In 2005, Google was forced to use the name “Google Mail” in the UK after a conflict with Independent II Research, writes Ars Technica .
