Mobile communication should consume less electricity
The research company ABI Research has published a new report in which its authors show that mobile operators must, without delay, introduce Metro Wi-Fi and WiMax technologies in order to reduce their electricity costs.
The fact is that mobile communication in its current state is very energy-intensive: the cost of electricity occupies the third most important place in the cost item of the operator. At the same time, WiMAX provides a twofold gain in power consumption compared to WCDMA, and Metro Wi-Fi gives a fifty-fold.
The report also cites figures: the power consumption of broadband services in 2005 was 42.8 billion kilowatt-hours, and by 2011 this figure would reach 124.4 billion kilowatt-hours.
