Hi, Habr. The New Year holidays have passed, we have analyzed the growth of the activity of our clients during the New Year holidays and are ready to share with you interesting results.

So, it turned out that on the night of December 31 to January 1, 2016, WhatsApp traffic increased by 200-250%, Viber - by 100-150%, Skype consumption increased by 40%. In this case, the peak of the increase in traffic fell at 22:00 - 23:45. Recall, according to Yota's internal research in November 2015, about 43% of customers of the mobile operator use WhatsApp messenger, Viber takes the second place, and about 32% of Yota customers preferred it. In third place is Skype, which is used by an average of 15% of operator’s users.

The number of voice calls on this New Year's night has tripled. The peak load, as expected, fell on the period from 22:00 to 01:00. Voice traffic of users in Moscow increased by 340%, among St. Petersburg customers - by 280%, Novosibirsk - 184%, Samara - 169%, Krasnodar - 140%.



In the New Year, the number of sent SMS messages increased four times. In Moscow, Yota customers had an absolute record - 15 times more SMS was sent on New Year's Eve compared to a typical day.



We see how the behavior of our customers is changing. They are now actively congratulating each other a few hours before the New Year and are actively using instant messengers. Thanks to the unlimited mobile Internet and the unlimited SMS service, Yota users can send an unlimited number of congratulations to friends and family across the country.

A surge of activity during the Christmas holidays was also recorded on Christmas Eve on January 6-7. The number of sent SMS compared with the usual day in this period increased by 25%.
