Monitoring SSL certificate and domain expiration

Situations when the site suddenly stops working for a banal reason - the certificate has expired or did not extend the domain in time - not as rare as we would like. From experience, I can say that this happens both in small firms and personal projects, and in companies with hundreds of employees. The reason is simple - the notorious human factor. To solve this problem, HostTracker introduces new features, the use of which further increases the chances of the site to get closer to the desired 100% uptime.

Control tools

Domain name registrars are obliged to inform owners about the end of the lease of domain names, but, as practice shows, this does not always prevent trouble:

• Emails get spammed
• Responsible employees go on vacation / sick / leave
• There is always a bunch of more important things, and the domain expires only after 10 (7..2,1, oh!) Days

Problems like these arise all the time. And, of course, when they happen - no one can remember who bought the domain, from which card it was paid, and the accounting department doesn't give you all that money right away.

In order not to fall into such situations, it is convenient to use the HostTreker tool to control domains and secure connection certificates. The service will automatically determine the expiration dates of domains and / or certificates, and notify all responsible employees on time in any convenient way - via SMS, e-mail or Skype, for example. These functions can be used both separately and simultaneously with regular monitoring of uptime.

Just enter the domain name. If there are many sites, then it’s convenient to use the “Add list” option. Click "Subscriptions" and tick the necessary functions:

• “Has risen” - messages will be sent a month, 7 and 3 days before the end of the lease term of the domain.
• “Fell” - informing about domain disconnection.
• “Repeat” - disconnection messages are sent every day before domain renewal.

Check the box next to contacts of people who need to be informed about the need to do something or to control the process.



To receive notifications not only through the mailbox, but in other ways (Skype, phone, hangouts), connect them in the tab “Add contact” or through the “Newsletter” section on the main page of the service.

Connection Monitoring Certificates

A secure connection using the HTTPS protocol has a lot of weight compared to other factors ranking a web resource, such as the Google search engine. Therefore, it is extremely important not to miss the expiration dates of SSL and TLS certificates. It is configured and works in the same way as domain monitoring, and includes the following features:

• Notification to the owner of the resource 30, 7 days, 1 day before the end of the certificate.
• A message immediately after disabling the security certificate.
• Resend daily notifications before an SSL or TLS connection.
• Select contacts where information will be sent from the service.

By activating these two monitoring functions in Business, Enterprise or in trial mode packages, you always know in time about the approaching expiration of certificates and the expiration of domains. Or, at least, if, because of a sufficiently high degree of sloppiness, it still happens - you will immediately find out why it happened, who is to blame, and what to do.
