iPhone 3G quadrupled

The staggeringly low prices of the iPhone 3G, called Steve Jobs, have proven to be subsidized. That is, it will only be possible to buy a phone for $ 199-299 with the simultaneous acquisition of a contract for the provision of communication services. The cost of "unsubsidized" iPhone 3G will be significantly higher: $ 770 for the 8 GB version of the device and $ 880 for the version with 16 GB of memory. Thus, the real cost of the mobile phone will be comparable to the cost of other similar innovations, for example, HTC Diamond.

The operator Vodafone announced prices for an unlocked iPhone 3G in Italy. Its cost in the configuration with 8 GB of memory will be about $ 770, with 16 GB - about $ 880, which, respectively, is almost 4 and 3 times more expensive than the previously announced prices, reports Engadget. Taking into account the cost of the first generation iPhone, it is assumed that the cost of the iPhone 3G in other European countries will be similar.

Recall that the new model of the iPhone - with the support of third-generation networks - was presented last Monday by Apple CEO Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) at the annual Apple WWDC Developer Conference in San Francisco. He said that the cost of the new phone will be $ 199 for the 8 GB version and $ 299 - for 16 GB. However, no details were reported on that day.

As it turned out, Jobs called the subsidized prices of the device. In other words, the mobile phone will still be “tied” to the operator’s network. In order to buy it at the stated staggeringly low prices, you will need to sign a contract for the provision of communication services.

Thus, the cost of the new iPhone without “binding” to the operator and, accordingly, without taking into account the operator's subsidy will be comparable to the prices of such devices as the HTC Touch Cruise, HTC Diamond and some Research In Motion smartphones.

The American operator AT & T has not yet announced the price of an unlocked iPhone, but said that it would be impossible to buy an iPhone 3G as a gift, since the activation of the mobile phone will be carried out only within AT & T or Apple stores.

Thus, the situation with the prices for the new generation iPhone repeats last year. In the fall of 2007, when the iPhone first went on sale to the European market, it was tied to a specific telecom operator: in France - to Orange, in Germany - to T-Mobile, in Britain - to O2. At the same time, the residents of some countries, taking into account the peculiarities of local legislation, were able to buy unlocked devices, the cost of which was significantly higher than the “locked ones”. For example, in Germany such a phone cost? 999 against? 399 for the regular version.
