Google is testing "password-free" input

One user received an invitation to test a new authentication method and reported this to one of the groups on Reddit .
Rohit Paul (Rohit Paul) was invited to participate in testing a new method. Now for him to log in to your account on Google simply enter your username and confirm the login on your phone.
Rohit kindly shared the screenshots: the process of password-free entry looks like this:

Step 1. Launch the browser and go to the authentication form (Sign in button):

Step 2. Enter your email address:
')

Step 3. After clicking Next, the system asks for confirmation of the login on the phone (note the fallback option at the bottom of the page — Use your password instead):

On the phone (Rohit uses Android) Push notification pops up:

Step 4. After unlocking the phone, a question is asked which must be answered positively:

Step 5. And one more level of verification, the input screen (on the main device) shows the number to choose on the mobile device:

Step 6. Login successfully completed (finally!):

These are the innovations. Personally, I expected a simpler “password-free” entry, but considering that this is actually a public beta (Rohit is a regular user), the proposed final product will look like that. It is not clear what the purpose of the introduction (or even just testing) of such a password-free entry is - for the end user, the process seems rather inconvenient — certainly not easier than the good old passwords.

PS In fact, the input is not password-free; in this case, the password is replaced with the phone PIN, the presence of a PIN code on the device is mandatory, this is checked when activated.

UPDATE: According to the AndroidPolice portal, Google has officially confirmed that it has attracted a small group of users to test a new technology:
"Google accounts, no password required." 'Pizza', 'password' and '123456' — your days are numbered, "
