MS Office can be paid as a mobile phone?

Microsoft is exploring new features for the implementation of its Office 2003 office suite. The Office Prepaid Trial payment program is being tested in South Africa, Mexico and Romania.

In May 2006, a run-in was carried out for Windows OS. The FlexGo payment program was used in a number of developing countries: Microsoft together with its partners (AMD, HSBC Bank Brasil, Infineon Technologies, Intel, Lenovo, Phoenix Technologies and Transmeta) offered to purchase computers with Windows OC, payment for which was made on the principle of pre-paid - on cards, similar to those that are commonly used to top up the balance of cell phones.

Currently, similar testing has been completed: for payment, Office 2003 was offered to users to purchase cards for 3 months. The sale of cards was carried out by representative offices of computer manufacturers. Application restriction is applied at the hardware level: the security system is built into the computer itself and does not allow you to use all the features of Office after the due date. If the user “does not replenish the balance”, the programs switch to limited functionality mode: they can only be used to view documents.

Microsoft spokesperson Chris Capossela said that the Office Prepaid Trial test application in Romania and South Africa was successful, while it didn’t meet much enthusiasm among Mexicans. Over the coming months, analysts will study consumer feedback, as a result of which it will be decided whether to expand the geography of using this payment program and whether to use it for Office 2007.
