Opinions: Swift became Open Source

This month there was a real revolution for developers on Apple platforms. On December 3, a new version of Apple's object-oriented language, Swift, was released. What is especially surprising is that Swift was released with the open license Apache 2.0 license with a Runtime Library Exception. You all understood correctly, this is a powerful programming language from Apple, and even open source. What does this mean for developers? We asked Igor Litvinenko, Senior Mobile Developer at DataArt.

“This is a huge step to popularize Swift as a separate language from the platform. Few know that Objective-C could also be used in isolation from the Cocoa framework, but it was of little interest to anyone. Swift is a completely different story, and the fact that it has become Open Source has already done a lot. Now Swift has become the most popular on GitHub, beating Rust, Go and Ruby.

What are the prospects for developers? First, you can compare your style of code with the style of Apple, understand the richness of the principles and principles on which the language is based. In addition, the feature from the community has already been confirmed, which means that everyone can influence the development of the language.
