Scientist warns: lithium will end soon

William Tahil, Research Director at Meridian International Research , in his new work “The Problem with Lithium” ( The Trouble with Lithium ) issued a warning - the proven reserves of this rare metal are very limited and at such rates of its use in industry as it is now, it may soon end altogether.

Lithium deposits suitable for active development have been found only in South America and China and amount to 6.2 million tons, which actually looks like a small pinch.

In Tehil, Napoleon’s plans for automakers in the coming years to transfer a significant part of cars to electric traction are of particular concern, because they plan to use lithium-ion batteries. And without it, laptops and other mobile devices are rapidly "sucking" the metal out of the earth's crust.

As a way out of the situation, the scientist proposes the transition to still more expensive, but at the same time giving a large capacity zinc-based batteries (the so-called Zinc-Air technology).
