Microsoft added the ability to disable tracking in versions of Windows 10 for corporate clients

Microsoft reacted in a rather peculiar way to the criticism of users spying on it from all sides: according to Techrepublic, the new update of the popular OS will allow users to block monitoring, but only in the Enterprise (corporate) version. This joyous event was announced on November 12 of this year.

At this step, they were forced to make numerous requests directly to client companies to give them the opportunity to turn off monitoring, since For businesses, the issue of information security for obvious reasons is often critical.

We received feedback, in particular from companies and government agencies, so users of the corporate version of Windows 10 will be able to completely disable telemetry at their discretion
- Jeremy Korst, general manager of the Windows team and devices at Microsoft

Ordinary users will not get such joy: for home and Pro versions of Windows 10, this update does not apply. When journalists directly asked Korsta why home computer users did not get this option - he simply repeated the thesis that Microsoft took this step on the basis of the feedback received:
')
In this case, we respond to user feedback and we will continue to listen to our users in the future.

Apparently, the indignation of ordinary users was not loud enough.

Windows 10 by default collects data about how the operating system and applications are used, information about their work, as well as “additional data needed to troubleshoot and fix problems”.

Users of Home and Pro versions can only reduce the amount of data collected at the “basic” level, disabling the collection of data used to personalize content and special services, including information that is entered into the device using voice dialing or a keyboard, as well as user location and applications used. About what is now available to users of Windows 10 to minimize the shadowing themselves, you can read, for example, in this article .

But even then, Windows collects information about security settings, system performance (crash reports and freezes), and application compatibility. According to Microsoft, this information is necessary to improve the quality of the operating system, and for this they use only anonymous data.

At the same time, Richard Tynan, a technology specialist from the Privacy International group, accuses Microsoft of using double standards with respect to its own clients:

Of course, this is good news that Microsoft takes security and privacy issues seriously. However, we are concerned about the fact that the improvement only affected corporate customers. We regard this as a hypocritical approach to the protection of customers' data and personal information. We would like to receive a clarification from Microsoft on the topic of why users do not have the right to control their own data on their own.

For his part, Jeremy Korst argues that Microsoft does not recommend users to turn off data collection due to the fact that it is a useful source of information for further improving the operating system.

The information we receive is used to improve the usability of the system in order to make the system even more stable and secure.

Users who include the functionality of Cortana, a virtual assistant, in their devices, with their consent, can transmit additional data about themselves: for example, Cortana can view mail for booked plane tickets in order to set reminders for relevant dates.

Jeremy Korst describes the new indulgence for companies as "unprecedented" and adds that "fifty percent of our trust companies are already testing Windows 10."

PS Habrainstruktsiya to disable surveillance.
