Mobile search inside apps ... which you don't have!

Back in 1998, when Google was just starting its way of Internet search, the online search itself meant a table, chair, computer (Pentium 2 at best), a dialup connection. Have you twice wondered whether to click on this link or not to waste time and read the search results further, hoping to find the right one the first time?

Today, the lion’s share of search queries is sent from mobile devices, and the mobile phones themselves are overlaid with high-tech, high-speed Internet and applications that may also contain information of interest to you ... perhaps even in applications you haven’t heard about.

Finding information inside third-party applications is still a difficult task, so we want to present you a system that will find answers not only on the network, but also in applications. And even in those that you did not download and did not install.

We started indexing mobile app content two years ago , and today our search index contains over 100 billion links to similar information: including from Facebook, Instagram, AirBnB and Pinterest.

At the moment, ~ 40% of search queries on an Android device contain results from indexed applications, so now you can not worry that due to the lack of a specific application, you will not find what you are looking for.

These results seemed to us a little: until recently, Google showed information from applications, if the web content of this service coincides with what users of mobile applications see. We were well aware that important information might not be duplicated in web services, and with the update of Google Search, two new features will be available to you.

First, search results now contain exclusive content from applications. For example, you decide to break into another city and you urgently need a hotel. In search results, you will receive results from the HotelTonight application. Or you decide to take a trip to Arches National Park . In the search results, you can find a detailed overview route 18 miles long from the Chimani app.

The second feature can be called revolutionary: in the search results you can find the "streaming" of applications that you have not installed. Yes, right from the search results, the application will start (located in our experimental cloud service), and its UI will be “projected” onto your smartphone. Book a hotel in the HotelTonight application without installing it? Easy peasy.

Running such an application requires a good connection speed, and the application itself works with restrictions, most of which are related to security and privacy. No logins, passwords, accounts and personal data are transmitted: access to the "streaming" applications is only to what the search bot can reach.

At the moment, the remote application launch function belongs to experimental technologies and is fairly rigorous testing, and in order to minimize the influence of various factors, we have to limit it to it as geolocated (long delays and problems in data transfer can kill the whole effect We will receive negative reviews that are not directly related to the quality of functioning of the elements of interest to us), and on a number of other criteria (OS version, installed search language). Nevertheless, developers can now begin to adapt their applications to new features in order to meet the massive launch of App Streaming fully armed.

For the time being, these capabilities are experimental and are available to a limited number of partners. We are planning to expand the number of available applications in the near future. Stay in touch. ;)
