Seagate offers HDD for mobile phones

Blog Wired writes about the new development of Seagate, the largest manufacturer of hard drives, who decided to open to the world (and its shareholders) another niche where you can apply the HDD.

The new gadget DAVE ( Digital Audio Video Experience ), previously known under the code name Crickett , is a wireless storage of information for a variety of mobile devices, mainly for communicators.

The first model will have a volume of 10 or 20 GB, convenient for carrying in your pocket weight and dimensions (imagine a credit card about 1 cm thick), as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi interfaces.

The necessary software for working with DAVE is already available for all major mobile software platforms: from J2ME to Win Mobile, Symbian and XCCC. Palm OS support is promised soon.

Thus, Seagate is a device for needing a large amount of data, directly accessible from any modern mobile phone, and giving an order of magnitude greater volume than flash cards at the same price. The initial cost of the DAVE will be around $ 150.

It should be said that DAVE will be sold only under third-party brands that have already staked out their place in the mobile electronics market.
