Announced the end date of support for Yii 1.1

Initially, it was planned to finish support for Yii 1.1 on December 31, 2015. The site also indicated “may be extended if necessary”. In March, the Yii team conducted a survey on this topic and, since winter is near, time to announce the decision.

The release of Yii 2.0 was very successful and, despite the fact that there were a lot of 1.1 projects, we, due to the limited time to develop both branches, had to focus on 2.0. Version 1.1 over the past year has not received much development.

We decided not to accept new features and improvements for branch 1.1. Relevant tickets and pull requests will be closed soon. Since there is no time to correct all errors on our own, we will leave open only the most serious ones. Old tickets about errors, which during their existence, developers have already bypassed in one way or another in their projects, will also be closed.

Yii 1.1 will receive critical fixes and compatibility fixes with PHP 7 until the end of 2016. After that, at least until 2018, we will fix only security problems. After the end of support, both the code and the documentation will still be available.
