Diskettes will disappear from British stores

On Tuesday, PC World, the largest British computer store chain in the country, announced that it was stopping the sale of floppy disks after the existing stocks were sold.

Also from the shelves and windows will disappear separate drives and computers with built-in drives. According to representatives of the PC World store, floppy disks, which appeared more than 35 years ago, have already been completely ousted from the market by modern drives: optical disks, flash cards, USB drives, etc.

The peak of the popularity of diskettes happened in 1998 - then about two billion of them were sold worldwide.
