Time to materialize: 5 days left until the end of the competition

About two months ago, we announced a Material Design contest. So, the last week of the competition comes to an end (we remind you that works are accepted until November 15), so it's time for the last spurt. It's not too late to apply . :)

You thought, the wallpaper for Android 6.0 is done in Photoshop? And no .

During the competition, the following positive changes have occurred: some materials on Material Design have become available in Russian (if you have text on the page displayed in English, then check the language selection in the lower right corner). This Material Design course contains sample code and markup and will be useful to developers. In addition, we are pleased to present you additional sources of inspiration. Perhaps it is they who will help you complete the redesign.

Handy thing

You can be a genius programmer or find a non-standard use of Material design concepts ( approx . That MD is not so much a set of rules as a set of recommendations, read our translation of the article on the transition of ToDoist to MD), but it’s still a matter of choosing colors. . To simplify work with the "material" palette, we have developed an extension for Google Chrome. With it, it became easy to choose the MD-palette.

Redesigns of large products

Update a small and simple utility in the new rules is easy. To wrap an already complex and working product in a completely different visual language, leaving it comfortable and understandable for old users is not an easy task. But such problems are successfully solved. Here are a couple of good examples.

First, the Material Design update has received a web version of Google Maps .

Keep up with the latest trends and products of our colleagues from other companies. Appropriate updates with a taste of Material Design received applications Yahoo and Microsoft Outlook .

Guidelines, helpy, useful materials

Inspiring redesigns are certainly cool (we even published three separate articles about them: 1 , 2 , 3 ), but, in addition, there are ready-made guides and tips, examples and effective practices for applying the new visual language. Relevant resources and portals are updated with enviable regularity, so do not forget to look and peek interesting solutions. Fortunately, the list where you can look, we have prepared for you:

  1. These two resources: Android Design Patterns and Android Explorations contain many examples of code for implementing various elements or principles of Material Design. In the comments to the previous posts on MD, this topic has been interested in many times, and requests have come to PM. Use on health!
  2. All information available on the Internet regarding Material Design is collected at http://www.materialup.com/ . Interesting Mockup'y, concepts, redesigns and dozens of non-standard ideas on the application of the concept of MD are collected on this resource. A great place for interface meditation and finding original solutions.

By the way, in the collection you can find one of our projects - " Chekhov Alive " ( here we told about him on the GT). Of course, everything is implemented in accordance with the concept of MD.

  3. Icon set Material Design . No more bicycle inventions. Quality universal icons for all, for nothing, and let Material Design become even more.

  4. GitHub repository with an example of using the Design Library in Android applications. With this visual aid, applying MD to your project will be much easier.
  5. Another repository on GitHub with examples and sources of a simple application in Material Design, this time from Google.

  6. The palette of Material Design , in case you are not satisfied with the extension to Google Chrome for some reason.

We hope that these resources will allow material'izovatsya your applications! And if you have already managed to translate your offspring into a modern visual language - we are waiting for an application for a competition . Until November 15, there is nothing left, it's time to press on!
