An interesting approach to expanding the audience was demonstrated by the American newspaper Sacramento Bee, which presented the
Capitol Alert website. On the new resource, fresh political articles will be published, which will be published “offline” only tomorrow, and for “premium users” there are ample opportunities to discuss them, as well as maintain their own blogs.
Daily at 8 pm, the site will be updated with new materials related to policy. Political observers of the newspaper will keep their blogs only in the closed part of Capitol Alert (previously, their notes were available to all Sacramento Bee subscribers), and paying users will be able to discuss all the materials and (in the future) keep their blogs. A subscription costs $ 499 a year - and this is no accident: developers want to create a community of professionals around Capitol Alert, for which $ 499 is not a serious amount.

In general, the policy of the California edition is quite understandable: the new project is an attempt to expand the audience and make good money against the background of an expanding Internet audience and falling print runs. According to the developers, the main income will be paid by the subscription payment, there are no plans to advertise on the site.
