I will start the story about sound problems with a fresh example. Most recently, I attended an IT club meeting in St. Petersburg. Sitting five meters away from the speakers, I could hardly hear anything. Those who sat ten meters away were completely cut off from what was happening.
The event was held in one of the restaurants, it was quite noisy, but the organizers did not put any sound equipment. There were no microphones or speakers.
What makes us worse than street musicians?')
So, the very first mistake is the complete absence of sound equipment. You can do without a microphone and speakers if you conduct a lesson in a quiet classroom.
I suppose if street musicians can afford a portable speaker with an amplifier and a microphone, then the organizers of the event, claiming seriousness, should not refuse to those who have gathered to hear what is happening.
Once ... once ... check ...One working microphone is better than two non-working ones. Most often, batteries fail. Do not rely on those from whom you rent a room, bring your own. Find out in advance which batteries are required in the microphone. The kit costs 50 rubles. Do not risk the event for penny savings.
The second reason why speakers cannot be heard is a broken or not connected microphone. If we don’t check the projectors, then microphones are even more so. As a result, the first speaker groans, puffs, clicks the switch, and then puts the microphone aside. Who can not read lips, reads the magazine.
I still can not hear! The third reason why the speakers cannot be heard is the insufficient volume. You need to check it from the far end of the room, remembering that in the filled hall you can hear one and a half times worse.
Extraneous soundsWhistling in the speakers appears when the sound from them enters the microphone, amplifies and returns to the speakers. Very unpleasant beats on the ears, and at the most inappropriate moments. It is solved by tuning the amplifier or moving the speakers.
Humming, pops and clicks in the columns most often appear due to the proximity to any electrical appliance or wiring. Often air conditioners and fluorescent lights are “noisy”.
Noise from cell phones. The reason to explain, I think, is not necessary. Turn off cell phones, ask speakers and visitors to do the same.
What to do?You are not experts in audio equipment, but simply an organizer of the event? So take
organizational measures: check everything in advance.
Turn on
each microphone, stand where the speakers will stand and make sure that you can hear from everywhere, and there are no extraneous noises.
Another tip: when checking the sound, turn on the lamps and the air conditioner and listen if they give no extraneous noise. If something is wrong,
immediately call a specialist and ask to fix the problem before visitors appear in the hall.
Surprisingly, almost half of the organizers do not check the microphones. Do you have any suggestions why?
