I want to share one little-known functionality in Adium, I hope you will find it as useful as me;)
So, you have friends, presented in the contact list several times. Perhaps someone will be surprised by such a statement. But this is not fiction. There are several reasons for this:
- The user has several contacts in the same IM network. For example, two ICQ: one working, the other home. Do not ask why, but among my friends there are such;)
- Do not forget that Adium is a multi-protocol client? ;) So, it is very possible that you and your friends are actively (or not) using several IM protocols.
For example, I once set up MSN and Yahoo. Then Google Talk and, finally, created another Jabber account. So, it is quite possible that there will be people like me in your contact list :)
And now, attention, the main question: why do I (you) need several contacts of one person in the list?
')
- they will take up extra space. As a result, an inconvenient scroll bar will appear.
- There may be confusion about which contact to use.
- for different contacts the history of correspondence will be kept scattered. As practice shows, this is not very convenient.
So, the problem is indicated and all this is no accident. A solution will now be offered.
Have you guessed that in Adium several contacts can be combined? Such pieces are called combined contacts or metacontacts.
