Microsoft Research has announced the
SearchTogether plugin for Internet Explorer 7 browser. This plugin turns the Internet search into a collaborative process: with subject groups, chat, recommendation system, ratings. All this should facilitate collaboration on the Internet. The plugin also saves search sessions and user tagging.

The appearance of the browser is completely changed. The window is divided into several parts: the leftmost column is assigned to personal notes, the next column combines ratings and comments from other users, and a column for exchanging messages with users of the working group is added to the upper right.

Although the plugin does not directly filter search results based on user ratings, but it definitely takes work with sites like Google to a whole new level. In fact, Google is now simply becoming a supplier of raw materials that is filtered and processed through the collective mind.
If Google is experimenting with personalization of search, then Microsoft immediately takes on the technology of the next generation. After all, collective filtering is the same personalization, only an order of magnitude more powerful. Google personalization does not yet support group filtering.
