Last year, we successfully conducted about 10 Imagine Cup hakatons in different cities of Russia, helping students and high school students to translate their ideas into software projects. We believe in the success of hackathons as a new educational format, and therefore we will organize student hackathons of the Imagine Cup this year, together with the Internet Initiatives Development Foundation and the Skolkovo Open University .
Hackatons will be held in October-November 2015 - you can find out the date of the hackathon in your city on the official website . You can also register for the hackathon . The first hackathon will be held in Moscow this weekend . ')
The main topic of hackathons this year is universal applications on the Microsoft platform (including development for compact computers for the Internet of things ) and cloud services. As always, educational lectures and ideas generation sessions will be held as part of the hackathons, so you can come without the skills to create applications and without ideas. The main thing - with a laptop.
To successfully participate in the hackathon, you will need:
A laptop with installed Windows 10 (available on the program DreamSpark Premium, or as a free Upgrade with Windows 7.8). Windows 8 / Windows Phone 8 application development is also possible using Windows 8.
When installing Visual Studio, you need to make sure that the UWP universal application development tools, Windows Phone 8 / Windows 10 Mobile smartphone emulators are installed. Read more here .
If you want to develop a game, you can install Unity 5 or MonoGame .
If you want to develop applications for Kinect, install Kinect SDK 1.8 (for Kinect 1) or 2.0 .
If you want to work with the Internet of things - it is better to take with you the existing boards and sensors. Especially welcome Raspberry Pi 2, which runs Windows 10.
Which will also be very useful:
USB flash drive to share files and distributions
If you have your own way of accessing the Internet (Yota, 3G modem, etc.), it is recommended to take it with you, since Internet hackathons are always lacking.
The best projects on hackathons will receive prizes, and all participants will receive useful comments and advice from the jury members. Teams that will become participants of the Imagine Cup following the results of the hackathons will be invited to the IIDF online pre-accelerator, and OtUS specialists will select among the participants several teams to participate in the first session of the Global Challenges program .
