Today PyCharm offered to upgrade to IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate Edition, which I was surprised to say the least.
Clicking on the proposed link, I found an announcement about changing the licensing model for development environments from JetBrains:
What products are affected?
IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate, AppCode, CLion, PhpStorm, PyCharm Professional, RubyMine, WebStorm, ReSharper, ReSharper C ++, dotTrace, dotCover, and dotMemory. YouTrack, TeamCity, Upsource, and Hub.

The essence of the changes is that a new type of license is introduced, which allows you to rent several environments in one bundle (even all together), add a licensing model by subscription (that is, rent products) and cancel the perpetual licensing model (when you buy it) forever to use:
What is changing?
Will be available for purchase as of November 2, 2015 for selected products. A new subscription-based licensing model will replace the existing model.

In the JetBrains blog, you can read an inspiring article about how bad it was for developers who had to buy several development environments and how well they would become with a new licensing model:

Representatives of JetBrains explain their decision by saying that their products are already full of features, and with such a model they can now not chase after all new features in releases to encourage users to upgrade, and focus on continuous improvement of products.
I have my own guess that this innovation is most likely due to the fact that during the period of financial instability, many held back money to update support and this affected the cash flow of the company. Maybe it was worth talking about it directly?
It is worth noting that warnings are scattered everywhere that the licensing model is not final and, within a week, it is worth waiting for news:
Update (September 8th): Please expect updates next week.
We announced a new subscription licensing and JetBrains Toolbox yesterday. We want you to rest assured that we are listening. Your comments, questions and concerns are not falling on deaf ears.

Well, if they want to hear, let's speak.
Personally, I'm upset about changing the model, but if it is necessary for the survival of JetBrains with its products, I'm ready to accept.
