The other day we decided to conduct a small express study on which operating systems are most popular among our customers. We will tell about it and a little about the western experience.

photo Perspecsys Photos CCOur own data, which we obtained from a survey and analysis of feedback from our customers, suggests that the most popular OS for virtual servers is
Windows Server 2012 (32%).
')
Next comes Windows Server 2008 (23%), and Ubuntu 14.04 (12%) is in third place. Ubuntu 12.04 and CentOS 7 share 4 and 5 place. Under their management works 8% of servers.
This insider is quite interesting, if you look at the results of other analytical reports. For example, the results of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud research showed that more than a hundred thousand virtual servers are running Ubuntu, followed by Amazon Linux (almost a third of the servers), and Windows closes the top three.
Ubuntu developers are interested in maximizing the OS. They work not only with Amazon, but also with Microsoft, HP, Google and other clouds. This strategy brings results. Even if you look at OpenStack, according to another
study , 53% use Ubuntu, and then CentOS comes from 29%.
