Back in February 2014, the
British Tate Gallery together with
Exeter and
Nottingham Universities created a service in which users can mark on the map paintings, drawings, prints, etc. from more than 70,000th catalog of works of art gallery.
Project site:
Tate Art MapsThe service uses Google maps and is analogous to
panoramio for works of art. The service allows you to search by the names of works of art, and by location. The correctness of binding to the map of the selected work of art can be discussed in the comments (registration is required).

Currently, more than 23,000 objects are attached to the map.
The project code is available on
GitHub under the GPLv3 license.
From personal impressions about the service:
- Easy work
- For many cities, objects are tied approximately in the center of the map of the selected city.
- It is not clear how comments are moderated and protected against vandalism (placing objects in deliberately false locations)
- For landscapes would love the direction of sight
- It is not clear what to do with the binding (see image below)
Possible locations for the picture of the Church of the Savior on Blood in St. Petersburg. The correct location: the object in the picture or the location of the artist with an easel?PS
The project site can not withstand habraeffekt.
