Google today
announced the long-awaited update for Android users, which fixes a set of notorious Remote Code Execution vulnerabilities under the common name
Stagefright (
Google Stagefright Media Playback Engine Multiple Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities ). Stagefright allowed attackers to remotely execute code on a device with maximum rights in the system by sending a specially crafted MMS message to the victim, without the user even having to open it.

Google also indicated that Android will be updated monthly and updates will regularly appear for it covering the security vulnerabilities (
Monthly Over-the-Air Android Security Updates ). It is known that the first such updates are received by the devices of Google itself, i.e. the Nexus series. Further, the shoulders of manufacturers of other devices falls responsibility for updating their released devices.

At the same time with Google, Samsung has
notified users of its devices that their users will also receive the corresponding Android updates immediately after their release, thus placing particular emphasis on ensuring the safety of their users.
With our recent security issues, we’ve been rethinking the way we’ve taken. It’s always up to you to keep it safe. We want to make it easier for our users.

Obviously, the last straw that prompted vendors to make such a decision was the discovery of Stagefright vulnerabilities that allow remote execution of code in the system by sending messages, which is a huge risk for users, since attackers can take complete control of the compromised device.
Google has already sent out the corresponding fixes for Stagefright to manufacturers of mobile devices that are running Android. Such devices as Google Nexus 5, Nexus 6 are subject to updating; Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 Edge, Note Edge; HTC One M7, One M8, One M9; LG Electronics G2, G3, G4; Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z4, Xperia Z3 Compact.
