Tabs on top? Development of the new interface Yandex. Browser
We continue to refine the new interface Yandex. Browser and gradually move to the option that can be made available to all. We do this carefully, examining user feedback on what has already been done. Today - a new beta version for Windows, called Calypso and based on the most successful solutions from the Cousteau project.
At the end of last year, we showed the public (including on Habré ) the alpha version of the new design and asked for help with testing. Due to this, our team managed to test ideas in real conditions, to divide them into those that are understandable to people, and those that need further refinement. Calypso is a combination of familiar solutions from a classic interface with good ideas from Cousteau. Among them are videophones, a transparent interface, a search with rich answers, updated infobars and many others.

The new tab in Calypso is cleared of useless gray panels, and all the available space is set aside for an animated videophone. At the same time, we returned the ability to switch between Placards, downloads, add-ons and recently closed sites.
By the way, the designers have updated more than half of the built-in backgrounds and enabled users to upload their own pictures. This time, new backgrounds should be downloaded from the server, so you may need to restart your browser or wait a bit.
Open tabs
As you might have guessed, the default tabs are now displayed on top. It was hard to resist after so many of your feedback. Of course, we have not forgotten about transparency. The site shines through the interface, as if hinting that it is the main one. We only slightly muted the effect of transparency in comparison with Cousteau.
The grouping and coloring of tabs in the colors of sites provoked a lot of questions and require rethinking, so in Calypso they are available only for tabs from below.
Yes, you can choose where to place them. The corresponding item is in the context menu. Above the tabs is now intensive work. In future versions, their appearance and logic of work should be unified. We are also thinking about the option with side tabs. We believe that in the future the location of the tabs will depend only on the taste of the user. How do you like this layout?

We have already said that we do not plan to hide the domain from visitors, so now it is clearly presented next to the page title. In the current build, the domain will be to the right of the header, but we are experimenting with options, and in the next updates it may move (as in the screenshot).
What happens if you click on the address bar? In Cousteau Iznanka opened, which covered the entire site. Unfortunately, this led to confusion and loss of context. In Calypso, we are back to basics and are showing the Scoreboard. We didn’t give up the ideas that lie at the base of the wrong side, but we need time to give them a new form.
Search tips in Calypso, as well as in Cousteau, not only help to refine the query, but also provide extensive information. For example, text from Wikipedia, pictures or links to sub-pages of the site. We call such tips “Rich Answers.” Selecting an alternative search engine is as easy as in the classic interface.
Try Yandex. The browser with the Calypso interface is now possible only in the beta version for Windows. For other OS will be a little later. This assembly is still far from final. In some places you need to work on optimization. And there are still gaps in the localization. Bug reports for other errors found can be sent via a bug.
