VIA has published a design laptop under license CC
The company VIA posted in the open access CAD-files to build a laptop. This is the original VIA VX800 chipset model with a VIA C7-M ULV 1.6 GHz processor. The inexpensive laptop weighs 1 kg, it is equipped with a display of 1024 x 600 pixels, a camera and a WiFi transmitter. Its price can range from $ 500 to $ 800.
The design is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license, so anyone can use this design at their discretion and build their own laptops without problems with the copyright holder, only with reference to VIA. The laid out CAD-files can be modified and distributed under the same license.

VIA OpenBook is no longer the first device distributed under an open source license. In March, Openmoko opened the Neo 1973 smartphone design under the same Creative Commons ShareAlike license to anyone.
