Fighters for copyright will get their power structure

The Canadian edition of Ottawa Citizen, citing unnamed sources, writes about a secret agreement between the governments of the G8 and a number of EU countries, aimed at combating copyright infringement. The document is called ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, ACTC) and is scheduled for discussion at the July G8 summit in Tokyo.

Under the terms of the agreement, the participating countries will have to change their legislation in such a way as to significantly toughen its parts relating to the fight against the illegal use of intellectual property. In particular, a special agency will be created that will empower all the inherent power structures. Its employees will be able to withdraw (for example, during customs control) laptops, players or any other carriers of citizens to check the absence of pirated mp3 or video files on them. A special moment - the special service will be able to determine the legality of a particular file on site by its decision.

Also, new rules will oblige providers to monitor user behavior and declare their “suspicious” activity.

A confirmation of the existence of the document itself was obtained by one of the Canadian human rights defenders, who sent a standard civil request to the government. However, the response contained only the name of the agreement, while the entire content was overwritten by censorship.

An extensive discussion in the USA, Canada and the UK is still going on in the key “this cannot be, because there can never be” or, on the contrary, “well, haven't we warned that this will be the case?” Constructive proposals to make efforts to clarify the details are still drowning against the general emotional background.
