Koreans have developed a replacement for MP3?

A group of developers from the Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (R & D Institute) announced the creation of a new audio file format called MT9. The main difference between MT9 and popular MP3 is the ability to split the song into six channels, each of which can be used to play a separate instrument or voice.

According to the developers, their format can act as a replacement for the most common MP3 format today. Whether this will happen is not yet known. But there are already some prerequisites for promoting MT9. For example, representatives of the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) have selected it as a possible candidate for the new standard of digital music, and companies such as LG and Samsung plan to add MT9 support to their mobile phones.

With the player software, things are not so bright. To date, only one program can boast the support of MT9 - Music 2.0 from Audizen, which, in fact, distributes the new format.
