Microsoft is developing a payment system

Microsoft is starting to develop an online payment system that will allow micropayments to be cheaper than regular cards. This was stated by Bill Gates at breakfast in Davos.
Bill Gates said that this idea came during the "think week" (think week), which he arranges for himself twice a year. During this time, Billy retires to his forest house, refuses to communicate with anyone - and thinks. In past years, during such self-isolation sessions, he received ideas from the Internet Explorer browser, the Tablet PC tablet computer, and the online video game business.

Microsoft’s entry into the payment system market may threaten not only PayPal and Google Chekout competitors , but even Visa and MasterCard international payment systems, whose online incomes can also be put at risk. Bill Gates promises that through their system it will be much more profitable to carry out micropayments than with the help of ordinary plastic cards. For example, newspapers will be able to sell access to individual articles for a few cents - and this will be a profitable business, that is, the transaction cost will be less.

“If you want to bill someone for 10 cents or $ 1 per month, then you only need one click of the mouse ... you will not need to deal with all sorts of funny things or pay a large plastic card commission, half of which goes to the clearing”, Said Gates.

')
The average commission on plastic cards is 2.75% + $ 0.35 (PayPal has from 1.9% to 2.9% plus $ 0.30), which makes micropayments impossible. How can Microsoft reduce commission? There are several options here. A company can expand the scope of its point system - virtual money used in the Xbox Live Marketplace and Zune Marketplace . Naturally, you can easily replace the “points” with the dollar symbol - nothing changes in the system.

The Microsoft payment system, judging by the words of Bill Gates, will be open to third-party developers, that is, it is planned to publish software interfaces.
