Three years ago, 2GIS web developers met once a month to talk about their daily needs. In a large department it is difficult to keep track of everything, and we told each other what methods and tools we solve interesting problems. They did two small reports during working hours.
Then they thought: to develop themselves, you need to communicate with developers from other companies. Share your experiences and ask about things that they understand better. So
DevDay appeared - open meetings for sociable IT people in Novosibirsk.
The format is simple: we gather on Fridays after work and listen to two reports. Sometimes we talk about things that are not directly related to work. For example, about Arduino.
')
“Frontend, backend, mobile development, testing and analytics, product and project management are the main topics of DevDay”
We devise the topic for the next DevDay ourselves or ask the guests. We find speakers in 2GIS and other IT companies: local, Siberian, metropolitan. New DevDay - new speakers.
So that there were no monologues, we did more discussions: we added to the questions from the audience the gatherings in the kitchen with drinks and snacks. It turned out the usual such evening with friends.

At first, everyone was invited to each meeting. When applications for participation became more than places in the hall, people began to choose people by profile. We call testers for reports about testing, for reports about iOS - developers for iOS. So we collect IT people who understand the topic and are able to help each other if there are questions. This selection is the only restriction for guests.
“About 1,500 people from 36 companies attended 27 DevDay meetings”
Over time, we noticed that the formula “guests by profile + regular meetings” gave a cool effect. These mini-communities formed on DevDay: the same people come from time to time and enthusiastically discuss common issues.
Join our Siberian IT-community, learn new things, meet, check your professional level.
