Modular smartphone - Google Ara project - quietly dying. At least it seems that way. I have already
talked about how our team made the
DO-RA module for measuring radiation (gamma radiation) as part of this project. However, since then nothing has changed. The next KIT Spiral -2 (development tool) from Google Ara did not come out on time. Project Manager Paul Eremenko left Google and went to Airbus. New top managers have changed the staff of the unit. The previous command does not respond to letters. In short, we are waiting.
However, it is silly to wait. Especially on the horizon, there are new modular projects. About one of them, I think, it will be interesting for many to read.

This is
Nexpaq .
Nexpaq has created a platform for smartphones that works with standard interfaces. It integrates quickly replaceable electronic modules for various purposes. All modules measuring 25 x 25 x 5 millimeters are placed in a special ergonomic casing, developed for the flagship smartphones from leading manufacturers: first of all for Apple.
Mobile weather stations, ionizing radiation indicators, blood or saliva analyzers and other buns, sometimes necessary for modern man in the life of the 21st century.
The main idea of the Nexpaq project is that without significant expenses for the acquisition of individual devices, to use the existing infrastructure of smartphones and their options, adding more and more new modules for various purposes.
In short, we signed an agreement with Nexpaq and received a KIT from them for development. It is not much different from Spiral-1, although the SDK exists only under iOS.

The first prototypes of DO-RA modules for the Nexpaq project are planned to be produced by November 2015.
