The Russian Federation, together with the BRICS countries, is
exploring the possibility of abandoning strategically important foreign proprietary software and
replacing it with free / open source software.

Since this initiative can be very useful for the further development of the project, Alexey Bragin decided to take part in it on behalf of the Reactos Foundation. Since October 2014, he has been a member of the working group on operating systems, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media (Ministry of Communications and Mass Media), and actively participates in discussions within its framework.

In April, the Ministry of Communications developed the issue of supporting the development of independent technologies in various categories (client and mobile operating systems, server operating systems, database management systems, custom office software, cloud infrastructure and virtualization management tools). Reactos Foundation presented two projects: ReactOS user operating system and RosServer - ReactOS server based OS.
After conducting an expert evaluation, many different meetings and Alexey’s presentation to the heads of information technology departments of several large Russian companies, a
protocol was
published on the Ministry’s website, according to which projects based on ReactOS took the second place in the “Client Operating Systems / Server Operating Systems” direction. First place was given to the ROSA Lab consortium and ALT Linux.
The process of selecting projects was quite tense, many meetings and evaluations were held, everything went in a terrible confusion, but it was certainly worth it. The joint efforts of the ReactOS team helped to facilitate this process. Many other great projects could not even fall into this and other categories, but the Reactos Foundation would like to help them by concluding as many cooperation agreements as possible, thus creating and strengthening links with them.
When we submitted these two applications based on ReactOS, we knew how difficult it would be to get into the number of selected projects, and now we are proud to present this achievement as a reward to the entire ReactOS community, all developers and testers, everyone who made ReactOS the way it is is now: the best open and free alternative to the operating systems of the Windows family at the moment.
Although at the moment we do not have information about what actions will be taken in the Ministry of Communications on the results of the evaluation of our project, be sure that we will let you know. Stay with us!
