Ministry of Justice registered the order of e-ticket

The Ministry of Justice registered yesterday an order of the Ministry of Transport regarding the form and procedure for issuing an electronic air ticket (e-ticket), as well as a baggage check, RIA Novosti reports. However, it follows from the order that so far e-tickets must have a paper copy as a strict accountability form.

The e-ticketing service is planned to be introduced on January 1, 2008, and it should allow passengers to book tickets via the Internet from a PC. The transition of Russian airlines to e-ticketing is due to the requirements of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). IATA General Director Giovanni Bisignani noted that the delay in the introduction of e-ticketing services could lead to the lack of competitiveness of Russian airlines in the passenger transportation market.

But while the law in force in Russia does not provide for the circulation of electronic tickets, the Ministry of Transport must therefore develop and approve "Regulations on the requirements for an electronic ticket as a transport document for air transport." It is known that Mr. Bisignani has already addressed the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Igor Levitin, with a request to speed up the work on the introduction of an electronic ticket.
