There are enough articles about Zend Certified PHP Engineer (ZCE) and how to prepare for it. I will describe my opinion on ZCE (PHP 5.5) and my weekly preparation process (based on my five years of practical development experience).
Views on ZCE
By itself, certification, by and large (with the exception of a few questions), checks how well the official PHP documentation has been learned. I can get a couple of practical questions, as well as questions on the knowledge of patterns (I got about the Registry and its applicability), which is a little good.
Preparation process
In the process of preparation, I spent most of the time reading the
official documentation and it was she who helped to reveal the answers to insidious questions.
The Zend PHP 5 Certification Study Guide for the second edition of PHP 5.3 was also at hand. Having looked through it, I updated the information about some rarely used methods. For the practice of testing, I used

About a month after passing the exam, a hard envelope from the city of Cupertino, California appeared in the mailbox. In the envelope were: instruction, certificate and blue sticker.
The main reasons for passing the exam were: curiosity, testing your strength and the complexity of the exam. I got all this. The test seemed not difficult. Also, for no apparent reason, after passing the exam for six months, invitations were received for an interview from New Zealand and Germany. Apparently the presence of ZCE "they" has some weight. However, we will also have a blue ZEND badge when applying for a job.

Should I take?
In my opinion, the preparation for ZCE will be useful to the beginner as a means of motivation and as a subsequent selection criterion when applying for a job, and confident in their knowledge and experience as a self-test. For quick and effective preparation, I can advise working in pairs or take advantage of mentoring by experienced people, for example
Lorna Jane Mitchell or
Lukyanchikov Alexandr .
Yes, I almost forgot, among other things, Zend gave me a perpetual license for Zend Studio Basis, posted to the
directory of those who passed the exam (yellow pages) and the opportunity to join the closed group LinkedIn (Zend Certified Engineers).
