SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, or your hardware: What do domestic IT companies use?
Earlier we talked about one of our cases, in which the Hotels.ru project used the IaaS infrastructure to scale the loaded web project.
Today we decided to continue consideration of the practical application of the virtual infrastructure on the example of the opinions of representatives of the Russian IT sector.
/ Photo by Pawan BahugunaCC In the course of our communication, representatives of ABBYY talked about using PaaS. The company's services from ABBYY FineReader Online and up to the official ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK work on Microsoft Azure. Here we are talking about a higher level of abstraction from iron and flexible scaling, which can be done by regular staff. ')
Colleagues from Sports.ru told us a little about their own IT infrastructure. They use their servers and routing devices from the very beginning of the project. Historically, the situation was such that back in 2007, the company could not find a suitable provider of virtual infrastructure and decided to act independently. Over time, the operation of their systems has allowed a better understanding of work at peak loads, when the volume of traffic increases tenfold. Today Sports.ru is not ready to fully switch to IaaS, but sees in it certain advantages for launching new experimental projects.
The experience of another team representing the company Eset, speaks of the feasibility of a phased deployment of virtual infrastructure. So, the company decided to take a trial period from our IaaS provider and largely avoided the costs of building its own infrastructure for experiments. Similarly, Fitnessbar acted in a similar way, which noted a fairly democratic approach to pricing IaaS services.
If we talk about other business models, that is an example of the site Madrobots.ru, whose leadership considers the model of SaaS. This approach can be explained by the fundamental difference in the business of Madrobots and the companies noted above. As a result, the project gets the opportunity to develop rapidly and not pay for the maintenance of its iron.
But such Russian market players as Aviasales use all levels: IaaS, and PaaS, and SaaS. What exactly to work with depends on the situation. The need for customization - leads to PaaS and IaaS. At the same time, representatives of the company point out the fact that iron servers provide greater reliability and they work more stably than all the IaaS solutions with which they had to face.
Representatives of the cloud platform 1cloud.ru are developing a fairly complex product and constantly introduce new user-friendly features. For example, the ability to create virtual networks and deploy servers from templates. Here IaaS shows itself very well in terms of uninterrupted operation and cost-effectiveness.
